GEONOVA
Geosciences, Natural Resources, and Innovation for a Sustainable Planet.
GEONOVA is a scientific research program within CorpoLaguna’s NOVA Research Center, operating under the Scientific Division. It focuses on fundamental and applied research in geology, geochemistry, mineralogy, natural resources, and environmental sciences.
We integrate scientific knowledge, field methodologies, analytical techniques, and geospatial technologies to understand Earth processes, characterize geological materials and resources, assess environmental conditions, and develop solutions that contribute to responsible land management and the sustainable use of natural resources.
Our Research Areas
We explore Earth's processes and resources to generate knowledge and develop practical solutions.
Geology, Mineralogy, and Geochemistry
Research on the composition, structure, origin, and evolution of geological materials and formations through petrographic, mineralogical, and geochemical analyses, as well as the characterization of rocks, soils, and sediments.
Geological Prospecting and Mineral Resources
Research and development of methodologies for the identification, characterization, and preliminary assessment of areas with geological and mineral resource potential, integrating field data, geochemical analyses, geological mapping, and geospatial technologies.
Environmental Geology and Land Management
Research on the interactions between geological processes, human activities, and environmental systems through geological assessments, soil and material characterization, susceptibility analyses, and the generation of scientific information to support land-use planning and environmental management.
Volcanology and Geodynamic Processes
Research on volcanic systems, eruptive materials, hydrothermal processes, geological dynamics, and landscape evolution, with applications in understanding natural hazards, the evolution of volcanic environments, and the characterization of geological resources.
Geotechnologies and Earth Observation
Application of remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), digital mapping, spatial analysis, and data processing to investigate geological processes, identify areas of interest, and monitor environmental and land-use changes.
Geosciences for Sustainability
Interdisciplinary research focused on the sustainable management of geological resources, assessment of environmental impacts associated with industrial and production activities, investigation of materials with technological applications, and development of solutions grounded in geoscientific knowledge.
Scientific and Technological Capabilities
We integrate methodologies and technologies to conduct specialized geoscientific research and studies.
Our capabilities include:
- Design and implementation of geological reconnaissance and sampling campaigns.
- Petrographic, mineralogical, and geochemical characterization of rocks, soils, and sediments.
